I really wanted this to be good , but it’s a rather dull novel.
I felt that I didn’t really get to know Clarissa and Jace that well. I think if I liked them enough then this book would of been better.
The redeeming part of the book was luke, he was a surprise.

I'm really glad that I started out with Clare's other series (The Infernal devices) because this one would have turned me off. It's a first novel, and it reads like one.
Clare famously got her start as a Harry Potter fanfiction writer, and I remember reading and enjoying her stories back in the day. Unfortunately, that is coloring my perception of this book. I had never heard of this series until the movie started being advertised. It looked interesting so I decided to read the book before the movie comes out. It was fun, and had some differences from other YA books I've read (and a lot of similarities). I was surprised by one thing that happened for sure. I'm interested in seeing how the series turns out. This is a good choice if you're just looking for something fun to read.

I didn't finish it, partly because I saw that the fifth book of this series has been released. I don't want to commit myself into serial book right now.
