Written in 1866 by a Russian author - referring to the names, day, and places in Russia. I'm surprised as to how the book can move you - even today. That probably is the reason it is considered a gem. Fyodor reminded me of Thomas Hardy - where every minute detail is vividly painted for you. Someone asked me if it is a hard read...not really - the book actually makes you forget you are reading..it takes you to another era, another world.
