He does something to me, that boy. Every time. It's his only detriment. He steps on my heart. He makes me cry.
If even death's heart could bleed for the characters of this book, then what chance did my heart have? None. Zip. Nada. Zippo. It was so easy to fall in love, to laugh, to cry, and to cheer for the handful of tough but loving characters that made half of The Book Thief's größe.

This is a great read. Easily one of my favorite books, up there with A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. The characters are so easy to relate to and you finished the book feeling like you know the people you just read about. Not just a little about them but truly know them. This book just goes to show how powerful words are. I'm glad I bought this so I can just keep going back to parts and reading it. If I could give this more than five stars, I would.

My only complaint about this book is that it took me about 200 pages to get Into the story. Once Max arrived, the plot became more intriguing and I kept pushing through. Overall, I thought the story was well written and I liked how it was tools from Death's perspective.

an interesting twist on a storyline set in a time where many others have gone. I was initially not a fan of the story being told by death, but the idea grew on me. I found the characters lacking in development, and like we never really got to know them. I did cry at the end. overall, an okay book. not one I'd read again
