Merit is a hoot. She is clearly unhappy about the change but does not complain, instead she shares her opinion with sarcastic one-liners and a cocky attitude. From the start, it is clear Merit is unique and will evolve into one badass vampire. She is smart, an awk Set in Chicago, we meet college student Merit as a rogue vampire is attacking her. Merit is a hoot. She is clearly unhappy about the change but does not complain, instead she shares her opinion with sarcastic one-liners and a cocky attitude. From the start, it is clear Merit is unique and will evolve into one badass vampire. She is smart, an awkward dresser and independent making her well rounded. One of the things I enjoyed most about Some Girls Bite was that the author took us through all the awkward steps of her transition, from her first taste of blood to accepting the radical change her life has undergone.

A little haters’ relationship begins between Merit and Master Ethan and it is laced with sexual tension. Ethan secretes sexiness but also remains a mystery. I loved their back and forth conversations, and wicked, edgy banter. Neill just teases us with it as we see no real development but she has me hoping!

Secondary characters round out the story. Mallory is Merit’s best friend and totally supports her. I enjoyed Mallory, a girl needs a friend who has her six. Catcher is swoon-worthy but seems to have eyes only for Mallory. We spend some time with Merit’s Grandpa the Ombudsman. I love how supportive he is of Merit. He even has her friends over for dinner. Jeff is a computer nerd and shifter and is so freaking adorable I want to keep him. We also meet Merit’s father, Joshua and I am very curious about what role he will have as we progress in the series. Other vamps and characters added interest and have me curious.

The world is simplistic and I quickly became caught up in Some Girls Bite. I thought Holloway did a great job as narrator even with the male voices. Neill has taken a different approach with the supernatural creatures which was refreshing. While a lot happens, the story was not rushed and we get a strong sense of the world. Neill delivered plenty of action but also gave the tale an adventurous tone laced with humor t0 keep things light. I am looking forward to grabbing the next audio. Admittedly, when I first decided to start reading the Chicagoland Vampires series I had my doubts. However, my misgivings were quickly put to rest as I was engulfed by Chloe Neill's amazing universe. I loved Merit from the very beginning and my high opinion of her skyrocketed the further along in the story I got. I immediately dove into the next installment after I finished Some Girls Bite. I just couldn't get enough!

Merit! Where do I begin!? I can't possibly do her character justice in this review but I'll try. She gets turned into a vampire against her will. Merit's not happy about the situation even after she learns that the alternative was death. Her whole life is turned upside down and inside out; the transition from student to fledgling is bumpy to say the least. I really appreciated Neill's portrayal of Merit's transformation. Too many authors ignore the growing pains that any normal human would experience if faced with a similar situation. This newly undead vamp's comebacks to people's prejudices towards supernaturals make it clear that this new life was forced upon her and not chosen. I enjoyed experiencing the change through Merit's eyes. From the first time she drinks blood to an incident where she forgets about her vulnerability to sunlight and pays the price. Merit's a victim but she sure doesn't act like one. I loved her sarcasm, her spunk and her backbone.

The delicious master vampire, Ethan, added a sexual element but also a power-loaded one to the plot line. He's pushing 400, the head of Cardogan House and is just as set in his ways as Merit. These two protagonists clashed from the get-go. The tension and back-and-forth snark between these two characters pushes this book over the top. A part of me was hoping that sparks would fly in the bedroom as well but I wasn't disappointed when it didn't happen. There's obviously sexual tension between master and fledgling but the confrontations between them wouldn't have been as explosive had they jumped each others bones right away. I hope it does happen eventually but I'm quite happy to wait and see how their relationship plays out.

The side characters in this novel are equally incredible. I'd be hard pressed to pick my least favorite because they're all just so lovable. Mallory is arguably the best friend any girl could ever have. The way she helps Merit through her transition is remarkable. If Ethan isn't your dream guy, don't worry because there are plenty of other delicious males to choose from. Between Catcher, Morgan and Jeff the hunks are in no short supply! I'm sure at least one of them will suit your tastes!

Some Girls Bite is an addictive read that'll have you bailing on your commitments because you won't be able to put it down. So be warned, you should probably save this one for the weekend. Merit might just be the best female heroine ever and I say this after having only read the first installment in this series. The plethora of man candy definitely helps as well. I can't wait to see what happens next! ...more

I liked this book in a large part due to Merit. I loved how down to earth she was, ready with a finger for her family for their money over people attitude, except for Gramps. The relationship that they had was very sweet. I also loved Mallory and wish that there was a way for them to stay roommates, I think they seem to balance each other out.

I can't wait to learn more about the vamp politics and the structure of this world. I do think there is more to what happened with Merit's change and look ...more

Listening to audiobook. I love Cythia Holloway.

I'm not so sure why it took me so long to start this series. I really enjoy it. I really like Merit and Mallory. Catcher and Jeff are great too. I'm still on the fence for both Ethan and Morgan. It also good to see that Merit is making the change to vampirism with Lindsay to help her. I think that they will become friends and Merit will need a good vampire friend.

Some Girls Bite is the first book from Chicagoland Series. The principal character is named Merit, and she has to dealt with her new life as a vampire after an attempt of murderer on college campus.
