I loved this book so much. Not just because I dream of moving to Tassie or because I wish I had a hobby, I loved it for the way Matthew writes about food, especially meat. There were so many times I stopped & felt like something had just been illuminated in a way it never had before. The love for the animals he raises & then eats is clear. Reading that not everything goes to plan is somewhat heartwarming to person like me who constantly makes mistakes in the garden. But mostly this book just mad ...more

I read this whilst camping in the Huon Valley and on Bruny Island - which is a nice tie in because most of Matthew's memoir is based in these two areas.

I loved this book, but then Matthew is a bit of a hero of mine....;)

I did learn a lot whilst reading this book though and even if you are not at all interested in becoming a little self-reliant this is still a great read.
