Really interesting story with a lot of intriguing and captivating characters. Pacing was a bit up and down for me but overall I really enjoyed the story and I look forward to the movie and the sequel! :)

“What were they thinking? 'It's an alien apocalypse! Quick, grab the beer!”

I loved this book on so many levels. The writing style was incredible and the 2 main POVs were really intriguing. At first I was a bit confused with the change of the protagonist in every part of the book but later it made the story complete, giving us two angles to it which at the end finally collapse. The plot was intriguing and some lines actually made me laugh. I enjoyed reading this book a lot more that I 4.5 stars

“I didn't save you," he whispers, lips tickling my eyelashes. "You saved me.”

Cassie was an interesting character. She was exceptionally strong, brave and caring. Her relationship with her little brother was incredible. It was my favourite part of the book. I loved how much she cared about him and how much she was willing to give in order to keep her promise. Sam was only five years old and still was stronger and braver than most of the other kids in the camp. He believed like the little child he was but this hope he had was the one thing that gave him power to move on.

Evan was my favourite character. He was part of the Others but still the human in him managed to surpass. He fell in love with Cassie and I really do believe his feeling were real. After everything he did for her and the way he showed her his real self. Their unexpected love was one of the things which gave a lot to this book.

“Some things you can never leave behind. They don't belong to the past. They belong to you.”

“Cruelty isn't a personality trait. Cruelty is a habit.”

The second part of the book was from Ben's POV but we didn't know that until the end of it. He went by the nickname Zombie and everyone else in the camp also didn't use their real names. There was Sammy as Nugget, also Ringer, Dumbo, Flinstone, Teacup and others. Ben's character had to deal with many obstacles in order to find out the truth about the whole alien invasion and the 5th wave. He finally realised who the real enemy is and manage to save most of his squad in the fake mission they had been sent to.

“What doesn't kill us sharpens us. Hardens us. Schools us. You're beating plowshares into swords, Vosch. You are remaking us. We are the clay, and you are Michelangelo. And we will be your masterpiece.”

I expected a little more from the ending and that's why I gave it 4.5 stars. Can't wait to read the sequel and I really really really hope that Evan is alive.

The beginning was kind of slow and Cassie was slightly annoying at times. Overall is was fantastic!!

This novel is unlike anything I have ever read. It is not your typical dystopian novel and it keeps you on your toes until the last page. It is a story of what the world would be like if aliens invaded, but not in a way that you would first think. Instead, their ship is just this ominous being in the sky and then a series of events-waves, crash into the Earth and they destroy humanity one wave at a time. You don’t know who to trust, whether you will live to see the next day but you keep going be This novel is unlike anything I have ever read. You don’t know who to trust, whether you will live to see the next day but you keep going because if you are the end of the human race you will go down with a fight.

This book is amazing from the action packed plot, to the great characters, and the twist on war, love, friendship and what it means to be human. Yancey keeps you turning the page because he keeps you guessing every step of the way and you have to know what is coming next.

There is great character development and Yancey paints such a vivid picture that you feel Cassie’s loneliness, Sammy’s fear, and Zombie’s anger. You fight for each of them, hoping they are the good guys because you, as the reader, don’t quite know who to trust. The switching of narrative and perspective was confusing the first time it switched but after you got into the flow of the new characters rhythm and language it was easy. I normally don’t like narrative switching because typically I am more invested in one story over the other but Yancey did such an amazing job of showing that it was completely necessary to see part of it from Cassie’s eyes in order to understand Sammy, and you need Sammy’s perspective to completely grasp Zombie and Zombie brings more to the table that you did not see coming. Yancey also gives each character such a distinctive voice that you know when it is Cassie talking or Zombie that the shift seems normal and makes for a richer story.

What else can I say but that I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Sci-Fi, adventure, aliens, war stories and friendship. I cannot wait to pick up the 2nd book in this series.

Ugh, never buying a book at the HEB near me. I swear! Every single book looked worse than books at a Goodwill or Salvation Army!!

I loved this book so much! I do not want to wait til September to read The Infinite Sea. Cassie was a great character and I loved the way that Yancey split the book between her voice, Sammy's and Ben's. I knew that she and Ben would eventually see one another, but I didn't predict how long it would take or that Evan would be part of the picture too. I cannot wait to read the next installment and explore The Monstrumologist series as well. ...more

Didn't love it, didn't hate it. It reminded of a cross between "The Host" and "The Hunger Games" thrown in with a little "The Passage" Kept me turning the pages though. I will continue on with the series. I would actually give this 3.5 stars if I could. ...more
