I have a hard time giving books a low rating, because really, it's just a matter of taste. While The Book Thief did have some redeeming qualities and emotional moments, it was too slow, and frankly, I found it boring and predictable.
I did appreciate the narration being done by Death. It was a new way of telling a story, and so I expected it to be refreshing, especially because of all the hype around the book. But it left me unimpressed.
