Wow. This was extremely good. Fascinating even. Exhilarating. Absolutely loved this. It was a very enjoyable read. As you may know, this is a retelling of Cinderella but it's not just that. There's much more to it. At first, I thought it would be a crappy, girly story & I stayed away from it for a while despite all the praise I had been seeing.

Wow. This was extremely good. Fascinating even. Exhilarating. Absolutely loved this. It was a very enjoyable read. As you may know, this is a retelling of Cinderella but it's not just that. There's much more to it. At first, I thought it would be a crappy, girly story & I stayed away from it for a while despite all the praise I had been seeing.

Mrs. Meyer took Cinderella, turned her into a bad-ass, snarky cyborg - a human with machine parts - & put her in a complete different world than we've grown accustomed to seeing Cinderella starring. It's set in the future, where hovers - flying cars - exist and the technology is far more advanced. She kept various things from the original Cinderella fairytale like the fact that she lives with her evil stepmother and her two bitch-sisters - but the younger sister is actually very fond of Cinder and that was something that actually made the story more enjoyable because, Peony, the sister pretended around her older sister and mother that she hated Cinder's guts but she was actually best-friends with her -. Mrs. Meyer took it to the next level when she actually threw some aliens into it - not exactly aliens, more like humans with enhanced, magical abilities that live on the Moon, called Lunar - and that was the cherry on top of the cake, it made everything so much more intriguing.

Of course, there is a King and of course there is a Prince, Kaito, who meets Cinder & let's just cut to the chase & say that he falls irrevocably in love with her. It's actually kind of cute because it's so innocent and there's not even a relationship, to be honest. But the fact that he is chasing her because she excites him and brings something human and so ordinary in him when they're together. Yeah, that's it. The romance is totes awesome and fairylike but that's when life butts in and they cannot actually be together because - oh, I forgot to tell you that there's a plague going around killing everyone but Cinder is somehow immune. Also, there's the problem where Cinder is a cyborg and she actually haven't told Kai. Well, just tiny details.

I found it extremely fun. Complex too. The plot was thickening as the story went on and it all blended perfectly together like a nice chicken soup with lots of love thrown in. The characters were incredible, it was not mushy and it was not cheesy - and here I thought I'd drown myself in cheese with this one - the characters were actually kind of badass, and snarky and Cinder had that sharpness that can't be missed. The world was nicely-shaped, and plot-hole free. Nice, very nice. Perfect.

Also, the ending. Very satisfying. Cliffhanger-ish. With Cinder being forced to become a real badass, kickass heroine. Can't wait to dive into the next book.

Undoubtedly, I recommend this to everyone out there who's a fan of Cinderella and is not afraid of reading a Cinderella-retelling but a better story than the original story of Cinderella. There, I said it. ...more

this is the version of cinder i read back in may before bookcon.. its the portuguese editions, i liked the book, and cinders character and kay too ofc..
