I have been reading the Orphan X series since the first book came out and although there is a lot of violence, there is a humanity story below it. In #6, Evan Smoake, aka The Nowhere Man, aka Orphan X is trying to start a new life. He has promised the president that he will retire from The Nowhere Man persona in exchange for an unofficial presidential pardon. He really means it, until he gets a call from someone claiming to be his mother. Not only is that unbelievable to him, but the person she I have been reading the Orphan X series since the first book came out and although there is a lot of violence, there is a humanity story below it. In #6, Evan Smoake, aka The Nowhere Man, aka Orphan X is trying to start a new life. He has promised the president that he will retire from The Nowhere Man persona in exchange for an unofficial presidential pardon. He really means it, until he gets a call from someone claiming to be his mother. Not only is that unbelievable to him, but the person she wants him to help is her other son, his half brother. Andrew Duran was in the wrong place at the wrong time, bringing him to the deadly attention of very powerful figures. He is now being hunted by a merciless brother/sister team of mercenaries. Who is behind this team? Can Evan and his computer genius "foster daughter" get to the bottom of the plot and not only save Andrew, but keep Evan alive as well.

This is an exciting, action packed series and this book is non-stop. We see a very human side to Evan in this book as it has become very personal. Not only does he meet his mother for the first time he can remember, but he finds out about his half-brother. He also becomes quite invested in Joey's life when she begins dating someone Evan is not impressed with. This story takes up into cyber technology that goes beyond anything the military expected and when a whistle blower is ready to speak up he gets killed. Now Evan, with Joey's hacker skills is in, and needs to escape with his life. Of course it seems like all is well and everyone safe, until the explosive ending. Once again, Gregg Hurwitz has written a story that had me on the edge of my seat, nails digging into my palms as I read and listened to the Nowhere Man's adventure. Scott Brick is the voice of Evan Smoake and does a great job narrating this book. His calm, unemotional voice makes the story seem like Evan is recounting the job he has to do and what happens along the way. I definitely recommend this one to those who enjoy adventure, espionage type stories, but remember, there is a lot of violence along the way. ...more
