Philomena (Mena) St. Vincent was punished by her husband for her role in exposing his sister and brother-in-law in the last book. He had her declared insane and institutionalized in an asylum. Just as things were beginning to get even bleaker, she’s rescued by her benefactor who then helps to hide her. She’s disguised as a governess and sent to care for the children of the widowed Liam Mackenzie, renowned as The Demon Highlander. Kerrigan Byrne's Victorian Rebels series is rapidly turning into a favorite. She does not shy away from the darker and harsher aspects of the time period, and her characterization is realistic and consistent.

Great book. The plot and characters captured me and I couldn't wait to see there they took me. It is a rare Historical-Romance that adds a suspense/mystery element and this one had a good one.

Lady Philomena St. Vincent has been locked away in an insane asylum by her abusive husband. Her friends have searched for her, finally found her and rescued her. She is free of the asylum, but not free of her ashat husband. Her friend arranges for her to change her identity and become a governess in Scotlan
