Fifteen-year old Clary Fray goes into a nightclub called Pandemonium with her best friend Simon and sees two very attractive people exit into a closed off area. She follows and then witnesses a third person attack and kill one of them. Unfortunately, she seems to be the only one that can even see the three. It’s this encounter that introduces her to a world that’s very much a part of her identity, particularly when her mother leaves her a desperate message that same night and then mysteriously d

I finished the reread of this book and ended up giving this book 5 stars this time reading it. I loved it so much more this time around. I think knowing the characters this time around made a difference. I know Jace is a jerk but I like him so much and I thought Simon and Jace's interactions were so funny. Claret gets a lot of hate and I actually like her character so much. She's kind of a badass in my opinion. I can't wait to start the next book.

"When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a ...more

This is the kind of stuff my early-teens granddaughter used to read. I'm not sure I can get through an entire series of this fantasy/paranormal reading. I would like to know whether Clary and Jace are really siblings, though.
One of my goodreads groups is reading it this month. Otherwise, I'd not even open it, although I did learn that a lot of books in this Y/A genre have to do with killing "demonic" beings with crystal swords (or s.t. like that) properly placed in the heart.

This is #1 in The Mortal Instruments Series. I loved it. I thought the characters were funny and serious at times, but very well plotted. I am not sure I got the Science Fiction part of this book as it was a more paranormal for me. Yes, there did appear to be two different worlds or parallel ones, but it seemed to work for the story and had me guessing at what the turnout would be.
