Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy promised Sarah Brandt, a nurse and midwife, that he’d investigate the 4-year old murder of her husband, Tom. He’s secretly working with her father, Felix Decker, to use other resources to help him since he expects that time is running out for him to be able to devote his full time to the case. Frank’s honed in on three suspects as the probable killer and is closing in.

Midwife Sarah Brandt's husband, Dr. Thomas Brandt, was murdered four years ago. Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt has allowed Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy to reopen the investigation into the murder and work on it exclusively. But time is running out and Frank must pull out all stops to find the culprit. He believes the killer is the father of one of Brandt's female patients, and he has narrowed it down to three suspects. With the help of Sarah, Maeve, and Mrs. Ellsworth, along with some Pi

The tenth book in the Gaslight Mystery series finally sees a long running plot thread come to a close. Since early on in the series, maybe book two or three, Malloy has been investigating the (now) four year old murder of Sarah's husband, mostly in his spare time. This book sees the payoff on his diligent work. While I am glad that the murder has finally been solved and that Sarah has the answers to some long held questions, this book was my least favorite of the series. A huge reason for that i

This installment of the Gaslight Mysteries focuses on frank Malloy's ongoing investigation into the murder of Sarah's husband, Tom Brandt. While there have been some intriguing developments on this front in the past few books, the highly anticipated revelation of the killer falls, unfortunately, flat.
The pacing is off with Malloy galavanting around New York questioning neighborhood busy bodies who may, or may not, have seen something useful. This becomes very tiresom ...more

This is my favorite book in the series so far.
Very early on in the first book of this series, you find out that Sarah is widowed, and that her late husband was murdered, but no one ever found the killer.
This book Frank Molloy finally takes his time to solve that mystery, and I really enjoyed how the story was told.
I enjoyed the mystery so much, didn't manage to guess who the killer was at all, and I really hope solving this mystery helps giving some closure to Sarah. ...more

One of the down side of reading the books we inherited from my mother-in-law is that many come in the middle of a series; obviously she'd already read the earlier ones, but I haven't gotten there yet. On the bright side, in many cases the books are in series that I probably would have never started reading otherwise; that's certainly the case with these books. I'm very, very glad she turned me on to Sarah Brandt and Det. Sgt. Frank Malloy.
