part 2 of my reread of the throne of glass series due to forgetting important details like charcater names/ relevance as well as what had happened in each of the books. i enjoyed this in some ways more this time around then the first time but a few elements annoyed me.

one of the things i enjoyed most with this book was the characters. yes celaena (or should i call her aelin) got annoying at times and disclaimer: i finished this back in february so there may be a few ppoints that seem a bit weird.

one of the things i enjoyed most with this book was the characters. yes celaena (or should i call her aelin) got annoying at times and chaol seemed almost obsessed with protecting her but they also had thier good moments. also some of the other characters had interesting personalities. a returning favourite from my first read was the the witch fortune teller. she was creepy in an interesting way, mysterious as well as introducing another major race brought the famous quote which was approximately my price is nothing.

another thing i enjoyed was the hints as to what may come. since i have read through to the second last book i was able to pick up on subtle things within the book that alluded to later twists. these ranged from the mysterious black rings to dorians sudden ability to use raw magic and kaltains mysterious murmurings. these made it even more interested and helped keep the book intereste\ing as well as help set up for later plot lines.

my main issue with this book was pacing. it seemed that the early chapters dragged and very little happened and the last 20 or so were fast paced but were trying to do a lot in a short space of time. i could understand if more happened but most of it was building the romance between chaol and celaena and the rest were her doing spying on her targets/ trying to solve the riddle. there were interesting bits in the earlier chapters like the conspiracy with the lost princess and the talking skull door knocker but it also seemed to drag. the later chapters were faster paced and a lot happened though so it balances out in some ways due to finally seeing celaena use her assassin skills and the chapters involving the irontooth??? witch.

overall an okay second book with a fair amount of build up for the next few books. i did enjoy it and finished it in a day or two. would reccomend book to someone who has read book one.
