Cork O'Connor is on the run after Lou Jacoby placed a $500,000 bounty on his head because he believes he killed his son, Ben. An injured Cork lands in Bodine, Michigan where his estranged and widowed cousin, Jewell DuBois lives with her son, Ren. I really liked this story but not because of the parts relating to Cork's situation, which missed the mark in my opinion. The case invo

NOTE: This book is a continuation of Mercy Falls. I suggest reading these books consecutively, although the mystery will work as a standalone.

I'm so glad I read this one after Mercy Falls. I was surprised to find I actually enjoyed Cork having more of a back seat in this murder investigation compared to previous books. Though, I still prefer it when Cork is in the centre of the action. Again the atmospheric writing is outstanding.

This is one contemporary mystery series which is hard to put down.

Much like the first book, I found that this one moved slower and I just could not get into properly. This was a fair book, but I find I expect more from William Kent Krueger and Cork.
