A detective who cares more about getting justice for the victim than playing politics...reminds me of a certain lieutenant in some ways. Review coming.

Harry Bosch is a homicide detective whose star within the ranks of the LAPD has risen and fallen. He's a prickly loner but he's smart and tenacious and that helps him to be very, very good at his job. And when a face from some of the darker moments of his past shows up dead on his watch, he's like a hound on the scent.

This was a solid book with an interesting case and believable characters. Top among them is Harry himself who, despite his rough edges, has managed to avoid succumbing to

Harry Bosch, whose mother was fascinated by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, and therefore called her son after him, is an LAPD detective who prefers to work on his own and to trust his instincts. Recognising the body that is discovered in a drainage tunnel off Mulholland Drive as that of one of his colleague tunnel rats from Vietnam days, he pursues this as a case of murder, rather than the drug overdose suicide that everyone else wishes it to be. “The Black Echo” of the title reflects the ex ...more

The dead man in the pipe was Billy Meadows. He wasn't a junkie who overdosed as everyone was supposed to believe. He was a former Vietnam vet who had been murdered. LAPD Homicide Detective Harry Bosch recognized him and vowed to track down his killer. Joining with FBI Agent Eleanor Wise, Harry uncovers information about a bank robbery, drugs and murder. Now if he can keep Internal Affairs off his back, he just might be able to find Billy's killer.

This is the first book in the Harry Bosch series

"LAPD detective Hieronymous (aka Harry) Bosch is a loner and a nighthawk. Called out on a routine drug overdose case, Bosch soon realises that the victim found lying in the Mullholland Dam drainpipe is no accident case. Billy Meadows was a fellow 'tunnel rat' in Vietnam and Harry swears to bring the killer to justice." (From Amazon)

Harry Bosch is a great character and I really enjoyed this suspense novel. I will definitely be reading more on the series.

3.5 rounded to 4. I did enjoy this, it was a tad to long and felt at times a bit redundant but I do like the character Bosch it reminded me a lot of other detective novels.
