Hollywood, California Detective Harry Bosch is called to the scene of a dead body and discovers he knows the identity of the victim and pursues the case further. Bosch finds himself joined with an FBI agent, Eleanor Wish, and pitted against enemies in his own department as he tries to solve the case. Bosch is the classic competent detective bucking the political system within the Beverly Hills police department. He's trying to solve a crime and the department is more interested in the optics of ...more

4 Stars

LAPD Detective Harry Bosch is called out to a routine OD death that turns into anything but routine when the corpse not only turns out to be the victim of a homicide, but someone Bosch knew from his days as a Tunnel Rat in Vietnam. As Bosch slowly unravels the details behind the murder, he rubs a few people the wrong way - the FBI, Internal Affairs and the cops he works with. But nothing will stop Harry from getting to the truth …

A good police procedural with an interesting

Harry Bosch is a homicide detective whose star within the ranks of the LAPD has risen and fallen. He's a prickly loner but he's smart and tenacious and that helps him to be very, very good at his job. And when a face from some of the darker moments of his past shows up dead on his watch, he's like a hound on the scent.

This was a solid book with an interesting case and believable characters. Top among them is Harry himself who, despite his rough edges, has managed to avoid succumbing to

I enjoyed this first Harry Bosch novel very much. It was a well-plotted story with lots of twists and turns that keeps you guessing until the end. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. ...more

Harry Bosch, whose mother was fascinated by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, and therefore called her son after him, is an LAPD detective who prefers to work on his own and to trust his instincts. Recognising the body that is discovered in a drainage tunnel off Mulholland Drive as that of one of his colleague tunnel rats from Vietnam days, he pursues this as a case of murder, rather than the drug overdose suicide that everyone else wishes it to be. “The Black Echo” of the title reflects the ex ...more

First in Harry Bosch series. This involved Harry trying to find out why an old tunnel rat from Viet Nam was murdered and what he had to do with a bank robbery. It also involved a couple of FBI agents that were leading the bank robbery investigation that were dirty. Very good.

"LAPD detective Hieronymous (aka Harry) Bosch is a loner and a nighthawk. Called out on a routine drug overdose case, Bosch soon realises that the victim found lying in the Mullholland Dam drainpipe is no accident case. Billy Meadows was a fellow 'tunnel rat' in Vietnam and Harry swears to bring the killer to justice." (From Amazon)

Harry Bosch is a great character and I really enjoyed this suspense novel. I will definitely be reading more on the series.
