This is a strange book. And really kind of creepy. I quite enjoyed it. I also liked the audiobook. Neil Gaiman has a really good reading voice.

Good and not nearly as horrific as I feared.

2023 reread:

This time I was really creeped out and worried for Coraline. I guess expectations matter -- I remembered it wasn't as bad so I let my defenses down.

I really liked the final problem, with the tea party. I like how Coraline talks to herself for morale. I liked the tone in which the narration turns to the reader.

Very interesting. Weird in a typical Neil Gaiman way. Kinda creepy. Not sure if I'd let a very young kid read it--might give them nightmares. But, I suppose it's no more creepy than some parts of Alice in Wonderland or some of the Oz books. So, there's that...

This book is super cute. Also, very creepy. And I feel like it's the kind of story where, if I watch the movie, I'll wish I didn't already know the plot. Because I read the graphic novel a couple years ago, and I liked the book a little less because I knew what was going to happen. That said, I still read the book pretty quickly, so there's something compelling there. ...more
