Having just come off listening to the brilliant Neverwhere, I was super aware of how much American Gods was not on the same level as far as story goes. This was an epic and fascinating tale. I feel like I needed an annotated version because there is just so much in here that I'm sure I missed. It was packed with references, myths, lore, history, geography, religion and all kinds of magic. I've been warned that this is a love it or hate it book and I've on the love it side for sure. In fact, I hope there is an annotated version some day (even though this book would have to be enormous) because I'd love to dive even deeper into it.

The audiobook release with this is a very well done full cast recording. ...more
