Vellacott has created a likable character to whom many of us can relate. Reuben is a kind boy who knows right from wrong, but he sometimes makes impulsive choices that lead to ever worsening ones. In this choose-your-own-adventure story, young readers are given plenty of opportunities to explore the consequences of their actions. Is the easy way at the time really the easy way in the long run? Is it sometimes better to lie if we’re sure we won’t get caught? And can we ever be sure of that?

A fun choose-it-yourself adventure of a young boy. There are many alternate endings and stories for lots of reading time. The consequences of what may seem like merely minor choices are highlighted. A great read that even kept my interest as an adult.
