This is a collection of stories of several people from a small coastal Haitian town whose lives are connected, but whose stories are independent. The author drew me into the life of each character, presenting them with depth and sensitivity. 3.5 stars

This little novel reads like a collection of short stories weaving together the lives of members of a small town in Haiti who are linked together by a series of mishaps and tragedies.

It weaves together a portrait of its characters who view events from different viewpoints to give a rich a colorful story. The book starts and ends with Claire's perspective, but in between are a number of different characters and stories taht could stand alone.
