While this book gets mentioned fairly often in articles about the 'new' genre of 'chick noir' (see http://www.theguardian.com/books/book...) it didn't feel very noir-ish to me at all--just straight chick lit, of the tragically sincere variety, a family drama very close to something Jodi Picoult or Sue Miller might write. I read Big Little Lies first for a book club. I loved it. It was weirdly the most fun I ever had reading a story that is essentially about domestic abuse and school bullying and murder. A friend read this one immediately after and liked it but not as well so I decided to let a little time go by so that my feelings about that book didn't color this one. And I am so glad.

This felt unfinished. It was interesting that it was in Australia with some of the same issues that we have in the United States. What a mess though? One lie, one act of coward behavior, ruined so many lives. I found that unsettling. It definitely had a message.

I would recommend this.
