It has been forever since I have read The Shining and followed Stephen King. I used to read him all the time in high school, but then I started college and had no time for recreational reading and kind of stopped. I got into other things and never picked him back up again. Only with the Doctor Sleep movie coming out and that being a sequel to this book I thought let's read them and see how they are. *some spoilers ahead if you don't already know the story*

I was initially apprehensive about reading this book because it is so well known and so loved. However, it did live up to the hype. The only thing that ruined it for me was the movie, to be completely honest. I've seen the movie countless times so, every time I was reading a scene, I could picture Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall as the leads. Not that that's a problem but it did spoil my enjoyment a little. When I read a book, I love to visualise things on my own in my own world. Despite that, ...more
