Meeeeeh :/

I want to love Stephen King's books, but I'm not sure I'm ever going to get there. This was my second of his fiction (I loved On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft) and I'm still very underwhelmed. The Shining has been one of my favorite horror movies my entire life and I've been looking forward to finally reading the book (because "the book is always better!") since I was probably about 10 or 12. Enjoyed it more than the movie. Kinda creepy but not scary. For some reason only the hedge animals freaked me out, probably because they reminded me of the Weeping Angels from Dr Who (which totally scare the crap out of me). 😬 Halloran was my favorite character by far.

I think this is probably one of the top 3 Stephen King books for me. It fits together nicely, all the pieces make sense and nothing bad happens to anyone I like. (That’s a lie, but it’s a nice one).

Audio version is good. I read the print version years and years ago in the little purple paperback form and I have the Omnibus with Carrie and something else, in hardback.

5/5 would listen again.
