This book started off very slow for me. I felt there were a lot of unnecessary details in the book (perhaps even a third could have been cut down). There is a big section on religion that didn’t really add much to the story itself in my opinion. Once the boat crash happened, things pick up a bit, but most of it had to do with food and fishing which were details that could have been simplified.

I was enjoying this book right up until Part III. Thats when the story stopped being an improbable tale of Pi and his tiger on a lifeboat and turned into an overdone "twist". This book would have stayed great had it not been for Martel trying to make everything mean something else. I'd have preferred to stay in my fantasy land.
