this was a fine book about women. i do not think that they were necessaryly about chinese woman. although they are chinese and affected by the country's certain conditions back then, this story tells how difficulties may occur to people and how they react. especially women, who are over emotional, or under-emotional, lack logic, a strong character. and most of all, how it effects their daughters.

This was a brilliant book. I love all of the different voices and the ways the stories were woven together. I found each woman's story to be engaging and interesting, and the overall relationships between the mothers and daughters were beautiful. I highly recommend this book.

The depth of the characters and the way in which Amy Tan brings you into their world is extraordinary. I loved all the wisdom which was scattered about the pages, among the story itself, for you to find and ponder and hold onto.
