This book consists of sixteen thinly related short stories told first-person by seven different women who represent the two first generations of mid-Twentieth Century Chinese American females. One comes away from these intimate tales with more stereotypes than one had to begin with. Evidently, behind the placid facades of these enchanting ladies there lies a well of anger and fear from multiple generations of abuse and superstition.
