This is a complex book about human passion. There are two protagonists in this book, Anna and Levin. Anna has an adulterous affair with the sexy Vronsky that ruins her; while he comes up smelling like roses. Anna looses everything; social status, her son, her reputation and her freedom. She seeks to lead a truthful life and refuses to stay in a loveless marriage and becomes a prisoner, looses her mind, and kills herself. Levin is also in search of a truthful life. I read this book for my Feb pick from the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge.

Not going to lie, it was a challenge and slow to get through but I made it.

Before going into the book I knew the basic premise, it was about a married woman having an affair with a not so happy ending. What I didn't know is that it is only a small section of the book and I would end up wanting to speed through the Anna and Vronsky parts to get to Levin and Kitty and their blossoming relationship.

Anna Karenina was a bit of a disappointment. A bit too much soap opera and I never really understood why so many of the characters automatically fell in love with Anna.
