Shelves: watched-the-movie

i didn't really cared that the book was YA kind of stuff. the thing was the narration of the book kept going on and on. the story happened really slow and guess what? i found out it has been adapted into a movie and i realized it got all good stars and everything. so as a BIG fan of books over films that i am, i went on and watched the movie instead. this was a okay story. but after reading Sadie i think it didn't had much of twists and hypes as Sadie. so if you like this book, you will LOVE Sad ...more

I can't quite believe that the entire book is just a series of letters. Although there is no mention of who the letters are addressed to, I kinda got an inkling that it is addressed to whoever is reading. So, that just clearly shows that if you want the world to read your letters, the best way is to make a compilation titled 'this is all about me' - here, narrator Charlie admits to being a wallflower and hence the title.

I can't say that I didn't like the book, and I can't deny the fact that I am I can't quite believe that the entire book is just a series of letters. I can't say that I didn't like the book, and I can't deny the fact that I am one of the million self-confessed wallflowers that inhabit the Earth, but there were certain things that could have been tweaked a little to make the book more interesting. There was too much reference to teenage sexual inclinations and Patrick- Brad kind of relationship was still a taboo back when the story was written. It could all have been toned down.

Charlie might sound like a hero for he had the gumption to overcome his psychological issues, but in the real world, when some teenager does all these rants, what it signifies is that he is simply beyond redemption and his condition might soon require attention.

But, just like every other book which has at least a little something to offer, this book had its share too.

//"I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there."//

These lines sum up pretty much everything that Charlie wanted to say to remind himself of the fact that he is still going to be ok. The entire book was in a simple language and yet made little sense to me at certain points which made me wonder how simple language can make a complicated sense.

The way the author described Charlie's drive through tunnel was just amazing. That is the highlight of the whole book, like, I felt like I was really there alongside Charlie when the radio faded and crackled back to life. It was transcendental at the point and that's where the attribute "transformational" applies to the book.

Sam and Patrick were worthy tagalongs. So three stars, one for each- Charlie, Sam and Patrick, one star for the rest of the cast, and one for Stephen Chbosky.

Although it is quite a while since the movie came out, since I quite liked the book, I am looking forward to seeing the movie- Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller make an impressive cast! ...more

I probably would have loved this when I was in my teens, but I just wasn't a fan. It was pretty sad how lonely the main character felt. Not to mention his troubled past with his aunt. ...more
