This is not my first time reading Dead Until Dark, but it might as well have been because I didn’t remember a whole lot about it from before. Lol.

Summary:
Working as a barmaid, Sookie's life is anything but exciting in her small Louisiana town, despite the majority of the town viewing her as a little strange. But times are changing and a whole new world has come to light and Sookie's about to get up close and personal with it. Vampires have come out of the coffin and Sookie's intrigued. And when This is not my first time reading Dead Until Dark, but it might as well have been because I didn’t remember a whole lot about it from before. Lol.

And when a dream vampire walks right into the bar and her life, Sookie's almost powerless to resist the attraction. But dark times have hit. Times where having a vampire boyfriend might not be such a great idea. Murder has found its way to Bon Temps and hitting a little too close to home. Is Sookie in danger from her mysterious and sexy new beau or because of him?

I found Charlaine Harris because of the tv show True Blood. After watching, I knew I needed to try the books for more of the story. It also led me to a few of her other series that I adore. This reread was a big refresher as neither my first read, nor the show were very clear in my mind. I liked Sookie okay. She seemed to have an optimistic personality with a deeply ingrained Southern charm. I liked that, but her naiveté and refusal to see her psychic skill as a gift, quickly became annoying. At first, I could see her feeling that way. It made her somewhat of an outcast in her small town. When she actively started using it, though, I feel she should have moved away from thinking of it as a disability. To me, this book could be categorized as a Paranormal Romantic Mystery. It had elements of all three, but the paranormal and mystery aspects especially. Of course, I love the paranormal side. Vampires, shifters, psychics, oh my!! I love this escape from reality, even if this telling is a bit darker than others. The mystery side was also my jam. I love a good murder mystery, and throwing the paranormal on top of it just made the possibilities and suspects endless. The romantic side is a bit meh, for me, though. I love Bill. I think Sookie's connection to him is undeniable. Unfortunately, I also feel that Sookie's naiveté got in the way and made a mess of things. Considering Bill has explained vampire nature and she's seen it with her own two eyes, I felt her hurt and betrayal were unwarranted. I personally don't feel that Bill did anything but be himself, and even went against his vampiric nature in one instance, for Sookie. I just feel that she expects him to change to fit her, but she’s not willing to do the same. I guess we'll see how things go, but I anticipate whatever adventure we take will be extremely rough. I'm not sure what to think of Sam or Eric. I feel like Sookie could have something with them both, but Sam seems to have a lot of secrets and didn't make a move until she was taken. Eric is just plain old scary and dangerous. Lol. Overall, it was an interesting read. Sookie's life became considerably more complicated and I only see it getting more so before we reach the end. I will be continuing the series. I'm intrigued and really hope to see Sookie grow into a better and stronger heroine. ♡ ...more
