I loved this book! Jacob was an engaging character, both as a 21 year old and as a 91 (or maybe it was 93) year old. Having experience in nursing homes, I felt stronger towards the stuck-in-a-home Jacob. He was beautifully written. And I was very happy with his ending. His character is the only "main character"... everyone else, even Marlena are secondary characters, not developed as deeply as Jacob.

I know these writers who can't seem to figure out what they want to write. They have an amazing idea like a setting but then they completely fail to deliver a story, interesting characters or something similar. Sara Gruen is one of those writers. Sure, I have only read two of her books but they are quite similar in many ways.
