I waited a really long time to read this book and I'm not sure why. At first, I thought the premise would be a bit cheesy. The book surprised me - I absolutely could not put it down. Gruen's prose is elegant, and the story flows from one scene to the next without any hesitation. She captures the circus completely and accurately, and makes the reader feel as though they are under the tents. I will re-read before the film's release, that's for sure.

What a wonderful book. It's the fastest book I've read this year. Couldn't put it down and I'm missing it terribly now that I'm ready. I wouldn't have picked it up if I had not heard about the movie coming out but I ended up buying it and it was one of the best things I did recently. It's so fascinating, moves with a very interesting pace and keeps you wanting more and more. The diction of the book reminded me so much of Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men' which I also loved dearly.
