I enjoyed this novel that follows Jacob both during his time as veterinarian with a depression era circus and his current plight as an aged man in a nursing home. The portion of the story set in the present day I found heart-wrenching. It is sad to think about those whose lives are mostly behind them and have no one around to appreciate all they have to offer. I am looking forward to watching the movie and comparing and contrasting with my Pages and Popcorn group.
It was a good read but I didn't take the animal abuse well. I know it was historically accurate and it didn't go into massive detail, but I had some sensitivites. It was a good, interesting read.

this book has really low ratings because i put it in the amazing part. really, i like it, though it was slow as molasis and a bit predictable.
I read this in the beginning of 2008 for my bookclub. Great book. Some sexual situations and bad words.
