My favorite parts of the book were the pre-war/early war sections as Louie's time "under the bird" became a bit repetitive/monotonous for me. I also liked when they put what was happening in Louie's life in context/parallel with what was happening in other parts of the world/war/other characters' lives to really set the stage. Overall, I thought it was a very interesting book about an incredible individual. I didn't know much about what it was like to be a POW during WWII in Japan and I feel lik
