I really, really wanted to like this book. It had so much promise. Thrills, spills and an evil psycho wife. Although I was unable to put it down, I would sneak away from my daily duties at any opportunity to read just a small snippet, I still ended up disliking it. I think the fact that I invested so much time into reading it quickly that I expected a much bigger payoff from it. But instead I became kind of... bored? confused? irritated? Maybe a mix of the three?

Oh, how do I review this without any spoilers? I think short and sweet is the key. Disturbing in oh so many ways (as is any good Flynn book) and completely unputdownable. The only reason I could not bring myself to give this five stars was that a certain vile someone did not get what I felt was owing to them in the end. It's scary to think that there are human beings in this world who live, think and act like the characters in this novel, but the sad fact is that it is true. However, they don't ...more

When it comes to psychological thrillers (or any thriller for that matter), I have little to no experience. So keep in mind that I had no benchmark, no means of comparison for this book.

Overall, this book was great! Gone Girl had a riveting plot that kept me intrigued the whole time, complex (meaning totally messed up) characters, and it was packed with enough emotion to make me tear up a bit.

I finished the book in less than 24 hours. Having found it an absolute enthralling read, I was openly rooting for Amy because I believe there can be nothing worse than being cheated upon. Yes, even if your wife is a psychopath, you DO NOT cheat with her. Divorce her, maybe, but cheating is a no go. I sort of feel Nick deserved everything he had coming his way.
