What a thoroughly puzzling novel! The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick was not at all what I was expecting. I did not watch the movie... thought I'd read the novel first. I adore Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, so I really thought I'd dig the novel.

It is always a bit more enjoyable when you can identify with the setting of a book, easy to picture exactly what the author is talking about. It's also a good thing that I am a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan as there was quite a lot of football talk and the Eagles chant going on here, maybe a bit too much for non fans.

I broke the cardinal rule of book reading - I saw the movie before I read the book.
The movie was cute. Bradley Cooper and J.Law set up the movie to be a cute story about likable crazy people. The book told a very different story. This was a book about serious mental illness. Besides the very basic, characteristics of the main characters, almost nothing else from the book matches the movie.
