Tolstoy is very descriptive and he also gives good insight into the culture and social change of the era. However, because of this the book is a bit wordy and kind of dry in some places. Also, this book is not about a passionate turn of the century world wind romance. So, if that is what you are looking for DO NOT READ this book. Each of the characters in this book has their flaws and it makes them real in a way like these people could be people you know. Overall, it is a good book.
