Perfect scary story! I love the part where it says ..."and he would have passed a pleasant life of it, in despite of the Devil and all his works, if his path had not been crossed by a being that causes more perplexity to mortal man than ghosts, goblins, and the whole race of witches put together, and that was-a woman." Poor Ichabod Crane!

I have long enjoyed this well known story but this is the first time I read Irving's short story. I enjoyed the lyrical language of the writing although some passages are dated and politically incorrect. The story, at it's heart, is creepy and original but the actual written work seems to lack a lot. The ending is very anticlimactic and it's sad no one cared where Ichabod Crane went.
