This was a re-read, which is rare for me. I read this when it first came out and was wildly popular. It’s fascinating to realize that your impression of a book has so much to do with the state you are in when you read it. In the 90’s I was myself a “singleton”, made to feel like a social pariah for not having yet found a partner and settled into domestic life.
