Stanley Yelnats was accused of stealing a pair of sneaker of a well known athlete so the court decided that he has to go to Camp Green Lake to pay for what he did and to build his character. At Camp Green Lake, Stanley was ordered to dig a hole everyday as deep and wide as his shovel together with the other boy detainees.
