I heard a lot about this book and movie and how great it was, and it seemed to me like an intriguing story, but i was really disappointed. I suppose i had set up too high a standard for this book.
In all fairness it is good story about society in a way, but what it tells us is that we are all basically just savages. Maybe that is a true in a way, but this book didn't grip me, i found it rather dull and the story obvious. I did not like any of the characters, none seemed to have real depth or emo ...more

The gradual change in tone in this book is so incredibly well done. This book was so ahead of it's time. I've always wanted to read this book and I'm glad I finally got to read it. I was expecting a lot of gore and what I got was a dark reflection of how humanity eventually ends up digging itself back into darkness as a society... Even if it's on a deserted Island where you have every means to restart life afresh. There's no escaping the primal violence within all of us.

One of the best books I've ever read. Highly symbolic, philosophical, mysterious, I just couldn't stop reading it!
