This is actually 3 1/2 star rating. I deal Blackjack for a party casino company and I chose to read this at a busy time when I was working on a lot of events, to relate with the real life theme going on in my own life. The beginning of the book was great, explaining card counting in detail and describing how the team operated, though I already got that from watching the film. I really enjoyed this book. My sister had been living in Las Vegas for awhile (and is soon moving back) so I was interested to learn more about the gambling culture. I was fascinated in this book by how freakin' smart these MIT folks were with their card-counting abilities and elaborate schemes and disguises. It was also scary to read how the casinos reacted when they caught onto them and how they got blacklisted from just about every casino across the country--and even the Bahamas. Like the sho ...more

This book was nothing like I was expecting. I can't believe I am saying this, but I think that the movie will be much better. While this book is non-fiction, I felt it would have a fiction feel with a nice flow. I could not imagine reading a fiction novel by Ben Mezrich because I did not feel any passion from his writing. It felt like he was just telling a story - not trying to pull me into it. ...more
