Everything is Illuminated in Read the Movie

I had seen the movie version of "Everything is Illuminated" probably about five years ago- long enough ago to let the visuals of the movie fade so I could fully enjoy the book on its own merits. As is usually the case, the book was much better.

I liked the premise of the story but the writing was unbearable! It is so pieced together and random that it doesn't come across as artistic but more like someone just randomly pulling images out of the air! I can do that too! A clock, the picture in the frame, the pig and the sea of pearls, swirling happiness like a rainbow unicorn, Halloween candy...death. See! That would drive you nuts! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!
