After the wild ride that was When No One is Watching, I decided that it would be the perfect time to pay a visit to Anne and the village of Avonlea and picked up Anne of Avonlea. I'll admit that I had forgotten chunks of this installment in the series, partly because it has been a while since I've read this (my junior year of high school), and because the movie is a combination of this and the next two books in the series. My impression
There are a number of literary features which markedly differentiates Canadian writers from their American and British counterparts, and this children moral tale, written in 1909 as the second installment of Anne of Green Gables, does prove and affirm the uniquely female insight on social values and the role of women in academic and lifelong education.I was a bit older when I read Anne of Green Gables, but it still taught me so many things about being a child and about life in gener

I really liked this book. Just like the first it was charming, descriptive and enjoyable to read. I loved the introduction of Davy Keith who is just a wonderful character and he made me laugh throughout the whole book. I liked the friendship between Anne and Miss Lavender as she finds a true "kindred spirit" to spend time with. I liked the school stories as Anne's class grown to love her as their teacher despite her refusing to dole out "corporate punishment" and I am looking forward to the next ...more

I loved Anne of Green Gables, but I found the children in this sequel very irritating (particularly Davy, but Dora and Paul weren’t much better). I think I prefer seeing grown-up Anne interact with other adults as I still enjoyed those parts of the book. I am willing to give the next book a try, but I don’t think I can stomach another book about Davy.
