Here we see Jake's character depth. And my respect for him is now higher than ever.

The Animorphs had started to discover that they aren't just fighting for humanity. Some of them had personal reasons now. Marco, who was at first very against this whole business of saving the earth, had discovered that his mom's Visser One. And then Jake, has a brother who was taken in by the Yeerks as a controller.

The Animorphs had started to discover that they aren't just fighting for humanity. Some of them had personal reasons now. Marco, who was at first very against this whole business of saving the earth, had discovered that his mom's Visser One. And then Jake, has a brother who was taken in by the Yeerks as a controller.

Jake had a lot of sacrifices in this part. First, he turned into bugs he didn't like...all to give humanity a chance to advance... and of course, to save his brother Tom.

He was lucky to have smart friends. They all realized he was actually turned into a controller. But the fact that he experienced terrible slavery wasn't the worst thing about it. When the Yeerk that controlled him died, all its memories were transferred to him. Its memories, and its hosts... and it turned out, his brother Tom...was its host before.

But Jake realized that the fugue or the last hours of the Yeerk was not just the strangest but also the saddest. It wasn't just Tom's memories...it was the other species' and the Yeerks'.

There was a little background about the Yeerk specie:
- They were raised not as predators, but as parasites. That's why they need hosts. Without hosts, they're nothing, they won't survive.
- As mentioned in the previous books, they have to return to the Kandrona rays every three days. If not, they die. This was why the Yeerk, Temrash One-one-four, died after three days. The rest of the Animorphs decided to tie Jake (while he was a controller) just to make sure.
- The Yeerks find the Earth complicated due to the many species, balances to observe, and networks going on. They plan to make things simpler. Which was really dumb, in my opinion because we're talking about the whole planet here, not just Bloomville Village of Some Country. I then assumed that the Yeerks aren't that bright.
- The first Controller specie was the Gedds. Not much was said aside from their physical appearance: short, web-feet, and three fingers.

Although I have a centimeter length of pity for the Yeerks, I still am very glad Jake was fine in the end. God, the damage would've been enormous if the Animorphs were as stupid as parasites. ...more
