I picked up this book after the front jacket gave me the impression that it is about a girl, raised off-grid and "un-schooled" by a prepper family, who delved into schooling herself and successfully found her own education. But it's not. Not really. This book is HEAVY.

I loved this book. It was very reminiscent of The Glass Castle, but certainly stands alone. While I think most people who read this book will call it a story of overcoming the odds and creating your own destiny, I've heard interviews with Tara Westover and because it's her story, what remains most salient to her is the estrangement from her family.
