A reread of this classic Dickens, first read about 8 years ago. I loved it all over again. I think with Dickens you can 'find' new things in each reread - and let's face it, the book's so long that surprising details emerge you've missed in previous reads. Funny, tragic, this one's a bit dark, but still has that inimitable Dickensian style that makes it so special. My hero is Mr Pancks, with his crazy hair and his snorting. ...more

This is one of the all-time best novels I have ever read. It's timeless (if a bit sappy in spots), from its Merdle - Madoff connection to beautiful biting caricatures of the frailties of human society. A brilliant sweet book. ...more
