I echo several other reviews when I say that this book took me three months to read, but it was definitely worth it. I love Dickens' descriptions, and all the weird, hilarious minor characters he created. I disagree with most, however, in that I truly came to dislike Esther, the only character who speaks to us directly. Everyone seems to love her, but she got on my nerves. Don't hate me, friends. I found this a marathon read, stretched out over a few months for easier digestion. But sometimes I do wonder if the best way to read Dickens is simply to keep reading so you stay on track with the myriad characters and story lines. Up to the second last chapter I was still guessing who Esther was going to marry, and it was a slight surprise. By far, definitely my favorite Dickens novel. He flawlessly tells the story of a society rotten to the core, yet still keeps the humor. Guppy and Lady Dedlock, in my opinion, are the most memorable characters. I could read this book multiple times and still find something new to say about it.
