A re-read, as David Copperfield is the Book of the Year for the NSW Dickens Society, and I've been asked to give a reading for their first meeting of 2025. By far one of the best of Dickens's work. The precocious nature of young Copperfield is noteworthy. It inspires us to face our problems with maturity and move on in life ,looking forward towards a better tomorrow. The words of Mrs Strong were particularly strong and very true, "There can be no disparity in marriage, like unsuitability of mind and purpose". Among the characters which I loved, David's aunt was the best. David came to her with the hope of being rescued from his despicable conditio ...more
