What you think about this book will probably have a lot to do with how you feel about revenge. For me, the old adage, "The best revenge is to lead a good life," has been my mantra. This is not the philosophy of our hero Edmond Dantès, however, and about 1000 of the 1200+ pages of this book is dedicated to his revenge.

Overall, the book is indeed a delight to read. Dumas paints his characters very vividly and tells us enough about them that we feel intimate. The revenge plot is intriguing to the v ...more
