I have absolutely no problem in enjoying a book which is intended for a largely child or young adult audience, finding often these books are beautifully written, imaginative and highly enjoyable. The Harry Potter series is no exception even though they may not be most well written books in their genre, but few can argue JK Rowling has the ability to conjure up a truly magical world. These books were a vessel for drawing an entire generation back into reading and for that alone they deserve more

It's interesting rereading this now, after the major plot twists at the end have become old hat to us die-hard fans of the series. Removing the big shocking ending to the book and looking at the rest of the plot, there were a few pieces that struck me as a little amateur. I still love the book and love that it really sets up the rest of the series, but comparing the quality of writing in this book to book 7, book 7 will win for me every time!
